Do colleagues report that they don’t get emails that you send? Do you use a custom domain for your business, such as soundsupport.biz or yourcompany.com? If so, you should use Mail Tester to help you assess the spammyness of email messages that you send. Previously, I wrote about how you should setup SPF, DKIM and DMARC to reduce the likelihood that your emails will be erroneously marked as spam. Mail Tester helps you assess if you have things setup properly.
Using Mail Tester is easy. Send an email to the custom email address listed. Then, return to Mail Tester and click the button to check the score of your email. The entire process takes only a couple of minutes.
Your goal is to get a score of 10 out of 10. The higher the score the better.
Please be aware that the web site was designed for people sending email newsletters. So, your test results might scold you for not including some information in your newsletter. Don’t worry about this, since I assume you will most likely be sending a regular old email message, not an email newsletter.
Also, if your email address is run by a large email provider such as Google (Gmail) or Apple (iCloud) or Comcast (Comcast.net) then you’re not able to use Mail Tester. Mail Tester is only useful for people who use a domain name which they manage and for which they can update the DNS records.
I recommend using the Mail Tester at least annually to make sure your emails still score high. The technologies used to validate and verify emails change over time so it’s good to check things regularly to make sure your domain still has a high score.
