If so, this could be a sign that your AirPods’ internal batteries are worn out. All rechargeable batteries wear out from normal usage. This is just a fact of life. Did you know that Apple will replace your AirPods batteries for $49 (as of Nov 2019)? This is much less than the cost of a new pair of AirPods, which start at $159.

To get your AirPods serviced, Apple indicates you need to schedule a Genius Bar appointment, bring your Charging Case since it provides the serial number for your AirPods. Apple originally introduced the AirPod in the fall of 2016 so 3 years of regular use is plenty to wear out batteries. 9 to 5 Mac indicates that some Apple Store employees aren’t aware that Apple offers this battery replacement service, so stand your ground or point them to Apple’s own support article.
